Unified Process Tailoring   Print E-mail

The Unified Process (UP) methodology for object- oriented (OO) component-based development has taken the information technology community by storm. It's main ideas such as iterative, architecture centric, use case driven, OO approach, etc. has provided the best from the software development world. Many commercial methodologies, such as IBM-RUP, are based on this methodology. However, its full benefits can be realized only if this public domain methodology can be tailored and integrated with your software development environment. Furthermore, the best practices contained in UP can be substantially leveraged if you are able to enact (execute) the resulting tailored processes. Successful deployment of UP and its derivative methodologies remains an unrealized goal for many organizations.

The Unified Process Tailoring service delivers a tailored version of Unified Process along with the custom process content. The content is delivered in the form of a published content which can be used by all members of your team. The content also includes any additional custom template or guideline that supports the customized processes.

This service lets you pick processes by certain disciplines or you may opt for process Assessment Service to help you identify areas for tailoring. For more advance tailoring or integration with other existing methodologies, Discovery Service may also be required in order to document the base (AS-IS) process. The Unified Process can be integrated in its entirety or selectively from its disciplines. As part of the tailored Unified Process, you will receive tailored templates and samples based on the Unified Process (see Outputs below). The tailoring service can scale up to meet more process-rigor requirements or scaled down to make it more suitable for small projects.

This service will deliver a base process based on standard Unified Process as defined in the Unified Software Development Process book by Booch, Jacobson and Rumbaugh. Additional efforts will be required to create different flavors of the base process for different types of projects. Osellus Professional Services will provide estimate for the efforts required to develop the additional flavors of the base process.
