BANGKOK, THAILAND, 4 June 2003  - Osellus Asia Pacific Company Limited, Thailand, founded by three highly successful Canadian entrepreneurs who sold their previous Canadian company to Sun Microsystems, USA in July 2001; has helped develop and launch IRIS™ product (JavaOne 2003) of Osellus, Canada in record time of nine months. IRIS™ is Software Industry’s first process automation systems based on SPEM™ specification of OMG. It has been collaboratively developed using the product specification, software architecture and design from the team based in Toronto and the entire software development team based out of Bangkok.

Software development, customization and maintenance is beginning to become the largest cost element of total IT budget and the implications of software quality, timely delivery of the project and cost overruns are not only impacting the large companies but also the IT product and services companies. The existing software tools companies are only focused on automating certain tasks, lack the holistic view of the entire software development life cycle and are rooted into a proprietary process and methodology. The Object Management Group (OMG), the standard bearer of the Software Industry, with active participation from leading vendors of IT product and services and large multi-national companies have come up with a new standard called Software Process Engineering Metamodel (SPEM™) for the Software Industry. One of the earliest companies working in this space is Osellus Inc., headquartered in Toronto and its sister company, Osellus Asia Pacific Company Limited, Thailand headquartered in Bangkok.

Automating Software Development Process

Software development organizations use SPEM™ compliant IRIS™ to automate their end-to-end processes spanning the entire software development life cycle- from defining the process to enacting it to enforcing it across the entire project which may span across multiple organizations located at different geographies with varying access control restrictions and functional responsibilities to build high-quality, scalable, enterprise class J2EE™ and .Net™ business applications irrespective of their choice of process, methodology or technology. It is ideal for in-house, outsourced and offshore software development environments. The challenge is compounded when the organization is faced with managing multiple simultaneous projects using a different process. The answer is to automate the development processes in order to gain the full benefit of an organization’s investment in established methodologies and point-tools. Because SPEM™ is an open industry specification; customer’s such process automation investment will not be locked into a specific vendor product or technology.

IRIS™ is the industry’s first process automation system based on SPEM™ specification from OMG. IRIS™ is completely methodology and process agnostic. It interfaces seamlessly with the customer’s existing development tools using its advanced Web services capability. It is an enterprise-class fully web-based system since a single instance of the application can simultaneously accommodate multiple distributed teams from single or multiple organizations, developing multiple projects using different processes and methodology. IRIS™ provides visual modeling interface to model organization’s chosen process in SPEM™ before enacting the process across the team (s). IRIS™ visual modeling interface can accommodate simple to highly complex process. It requires no scripting and is totally web accessible. Modeling a process with IRIS™ effectively defines workflow, roles, skills, activities, work products, phases and milestones. Alternatively, organizations can select a proven process that meets their requirements from the extensive list within the Osellus Process Libraries (OPL™) and/or one could also use the OPL™ to select the relevant processes that support organization’s chosen framework and may customize those processes to meet the exact requirements to model organization’s own proprietary processes.

IRIS™ Empowers Development Team to Enforce Development Process

Organizations can map any number of development projects onto a chosen process once a development process has been modeled using IRIS™. The developers assigned to the project can obtain an overall integrated view of the project as well as the roles, activities and work products and dependencies that are specifically related to them. IRIS’s Management Dashboard provides real-time information and analysis of key process and project metrics. One can view project metrics in a consolidated way across all projects, irrespective of the process model used. The IRIS™ Management Dashboard is fully configurable to provide the management team with a highly tailored view of the software development processes, even if these processes extend to one’s offshore and outsourcing partners in a connected extended enterprise environment.

About Osellus Inc., Canada and Osellus Asia Pacific Company Limited, Thailand

The same team of entrepreneurs that founded ISOPIA Inc.; a highly successful Canadian software company that was acquired by Sun Microsystems in July 2001 has founded both Osellus Inc and Osellus APAC. The full extent of the founders’ joint capability, business skills, extensive senior management experience at large multi-national companies and experience gained through founding ISOPIA Inc. and growing the company to be one of the fastest growing companies in Canada and the successful integration of the company to Sun Microsystems, is now being committed to make the next successful venture Osellus Inc and Osellus APAC. The successful development of IRIS™, a large enterprise class software product, within record time of nine months by Osellus APAC, Thailand is further testimony of the founder’s vision of using offshore product development as a highly cost-effective strategy and a ground breaking approach of using the untapped market of Thailand for offshore product development using unique software development team structure.
