IRIS v1.1 includes native support for Microsoft Office Project 2003 and other Enterprise Project Management (EPM) systems that support a compatible XML interface. Process authors use IRIS to define and tailor end-to-end software development processes that can be instantiated across multiple projects. Project managers use IRIS's native Microsoft Project feature to automatically generate project templates and work breakdown structures that conform to the prescribed development process or methodology, such as the Rational Unified Process (RUP) or the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF). Furthermore, once a project manager adds resource and schedule information to the project, this information can be synchronized with IRIS to determine if and how the project is concordant with the underlying process.

Software development teams that have implemented a full scale EPM system often face an uphill battle in managing and measuring process conformance. IRIS v1.1 complements existing EPM deployments through establishing a common process foundation for effective project planning and execution.
