TORONTO, Ontario, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ - Today during the SD Process Conference, Osellus, a leading software process automation system provider, announced the availability of a new version of company’s IRIS process automation system aimed at simplifying the tailoring and deployment of the Rational Unified Process from IBM Corporation.
"RUP customers have long benefited from the extensive best-practices contained in this leading software development methodology. But, the lack of effective tools have hampered their efforts in the tailoring and enactment areas," said Aditya Jha, COO of Osellus. IRIS 2.0 includes Osellus's RUP-Bridge technology that allows the full contents of a RUP site to be imported into IRIS and stored in a SPEM-compliant (Software Process Engineering Metamodel) repository. The solution preserves the contents of any installed RUP Plug-in. "RUP-Bridge allows RUP customers to tailor, publish, and execute their RUP processes without any data re-entry," said Payman Hodaie, CTO of Osellus. "Our solution does not require an extensive UML knowledge or the implementation of a complex software modeling environment such as Rational XDE."
Tailoring of RUP Made Simple
IRIS 2.0 allows process authors to rapidly modify the base RUP methodology in order to create tailored versions of the methodology that are suited to various project types in the organization. Project managers can then tailor these processes to create project specific RUP processes. The tailoring capabilities of IRIS 2.0 include both modifications to the contents and the underlying model.
Tailoring RUP processes with IRIS 2.0 does not require specialized UML or modeling skills. The tailoring environment is completely web based and is fully compliant with the SPEM standard from the Object Management Group (OMG).
Using IRIS 2.0 the process authors can easily combine RUP with other commercial, public domain, or internal methodologies. The IRIS 2.0 system can be used as easily to integrate RUP with leading process improvement frameworks such as CMM (Capability Maturity Model), ISO and Six Sigma.
Streamlined Enactment
Until now, the enactment, or real-time execution, of RUP processes had to be performed manually. The manual approach is error prone, resource intensive, and instills little practitioner acceptance. Many RUP deployments fail as a result.
IRIS 2.0 expands the return-on-investment (ROI) for RUP significantly through the real-time management of RUP phases, iterations, activities, roles, artifacts and guidelines, across each project instance of a tailored RUP process.
Furthermore, project managers, process groups, and quality assurance organizations can use IRIS 2.0 to measure conformance, or pinpoint deviations, across any RUP project.
IRIS 2.0 is the first standards-based RUP enactment system in the industry.
